A few definitions of Nitpicking:
- American Heritage Dictionary – Minute, trivial, unnecessary, and unjustified criticism or faultfinding.
- Wikipedia – The practice of meticulously searching for minor, even trivial errors in detail (often referred to as “nits” as well), and then criticising them.
- Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary – giving too much attention to unimportant details, especially as a way of criticizing
- WordNet – be overly critical; criticize minor details
To avoid nitpicking we need to look at only a few definitions and reach a quick generic conclusion – nitpicking is about criticising details in an unproductive way. The objective of this site, though, is to look at details and identify shortomings, but only those that are significant.
The object of this site is NOT TO nitpick! but to identify the small things that we sometimes overlook that ARE important.
So on this site Nitpicking – No It Isn’t!
